About me

Hi, I'm Annie!

I have been an avid Thespian since my friend dragged me to an audition in the 3rd grade and I was cast as Zephyr with 3 lines and 7 minutes of stage time, it didn't take much to be hooked. Over the next decade, I cycled through nearly every theatre position: costuming, dressing, set painting, stage management (my hat is off to all stage managers, woof), and acting, before transitioning into Theatre Marketing. I didn't connect theatre with my passion for photography until much later but as soon as that switch flipped, I couldn't go back.
While working on this new skill, I was also deep in the trenches filming with horse trainer Elsa Sinclair for her next feature film. The goal of every day was "frame Elsa and the horse, include as much of the rest of the herd as possible, don't cut off any noses or tails." I have found this mindset is extremely applicable in theatre as well.
I fondly reflect on the time I spent in the icy field running around with a 20lb camera at dawn, hoping that I could spidey-sense where the horses would move next; for I credit it building my instinct when shooting a narrative I cannot foresee or control: as is theatre. Now, as I shoot running around an orchestra, with a considerably lighter camera, I think "How can I include as many people as possible? How can every face be visible? How can I use the motion of the actors to frame the subject?"
It is a challenge, a little game I play with myself, and all in all, a profound delight!

Photography allows the momentary art form of live theatre to exist permanently in a different medium; it is my goal to shoot honestly, and accurately capture that art.

Why Parklight?
The moniker comes from two places, literally. My childhood home was at the end of a long gravel road called Moonlight Drive and the year that I got involved in theatre for the first time we left that home for the last time, moving to Park Street. Theatre is an art of transition, it is a living being made of people and it is in flux, as is life. I like to remember that when capturing a performance or production, that theatre is always in transition and that is what is so beautiful, the stunning performance that I capture is momentary and in photographing it we allow it to become eternal; cue Thornton Wilder's Our Town.
Additionally, a not so subtle nod to our much loved ghost light.
